OutcomesOutcomes this engagement is built to deliver

  • A hardened FreePBX server sized to your call volumes
  • Extensions, IVR, queues and recording configured
  • Backups and a maintenance runbook in place

What it is

What FreePBX solves

Who it is for

Businesses and call centers that want full control of their phone system and predictable costs, without per-user cloud licences.

A self-hosted PBX is powerful and economical, but only when it is installed, hardened and maintained properly. An exposed FreePBX server is a common target for toll fraud, and an unmaintained one fails at the worst time.

How it works

How I deliver FreePBX

I deploy FreePBX on a server or cloud instance sized for your users and call volumes, apply security hardening including firewall, fail2ban-style protection, strong credentials and restricted access, and connect SIP trunks.

Extensions, ring groups, IVR menus, time conditions, queues, voicemail and recording are configured, IP phones and softphones are provisioned, and backups and update procedures are put in place.

Business benefits

What FreePBX does for your business

The commercial results this service is designed to deliver, not just the technology behind it.

  • Own your phone system

No per-seat licences, with full control of features, data and hosting.

  • Secure by design

Firewall, intrusion detection, TLS and strong credentials from the start.

  • Every feature you need

IVR, queues, recording, voicemail-to-email and ring groups included.

  • Kept healthy

Patching, backups and monitoring so it keeps running for years.

Why choose me

Why clients trust me with FreePBX

You work directly with the specialist who designs, builds and supports your system, from first audit to final handover.

  • Communications specialist

VoIP, SIP and cloud telephony are the core of my work, not a side line of a general IT shop.

  • Platform-independent advice

Zoom Phone, Google Voice, Dialpad, FreePBX or Twilio, chosen for your needs, not a vendor quota.

  • Zero-surprise cutovers

Every migration is tested in parallel with a rollback path agreed in writing.

  • You own everything

Accounts, numbers and configuration stay in your name, fully documented.

Scope

Deliverables and boundaries

The exact scope is agreed for each engagement. This is the typical shape, so you know precisely what you are buying.

Typically included

  • FreePBX server deployment on your infrastructure
  • Security hardening and access controls
  • SIP trunk connection and routing
  • Extensions, IVR, queues, time conditions and voicemail
  • IP phone and softphone provisioning
  • Backup schedule and maintenance runbook

Outside the initial scope

  • Commercial module licences, which are purchased in your name
  • Hardware supply
  • Round-the-clock monitoring without a support agreement

What we need from you

Having these ready shortens discovery and keeps the timeline predictable.

  • Server or cloud account access
  • Number of users, sites and expected call volumes
  • SIP carrier details
  • Call flows and recording requirements

Process

How implementation proceeds

Four stages with clear decision points, so there are no surprises.

  1. Audit the current system

Every number, carrier, call flow, device and integration is inventoried, including the after-hours rules nobody remembers creating.

  2. Design the target platform

Users, sites, queues, IVR menus, routing, emergency addresses and porting are designed and agreed before configuration starts.

  3. Build, test and cut over

The platform is configured in parallel, tested against real call scenarios, then cut over in an agreed window with a rollback path.

  4. Hand over and support

Administrators receive the call-flow map, configuration record and runbook, and a walkthrough of everyday changes.

How acceptance is assessed

  • Inbound and outbound test calls pass for every number, queue and IVR path.
  • Ported numbers ring on the new platform and the old service is safely retired.
  • Emergency calling addresses are set for every user and site where required.
  • Administrators can make routine changes using the handover documentation.

Operating considerations

  • Recording calls may require consent notices depending on your jurisdiction.
  • Self-hosted systems need regular updates and backups, which must have a named owner.
  • Number availability, porting eligibility, emergency calling rules and platform features vary by country and provider, and are confirmed for your locations during discovery.

FAQ

FreePBX: common questions

Have a different question? Ask it directly.

Is FreePBX secure?

It can be, with the right hardening: firewall rules, restricted admin access, strong SIP credentials, intrusion protection and timely updates. Insecure defaults are the main risk.

Can FreePBX run in the cloud?

Yes. It runs well on cloud servers, provided the instance is sized and secured appropriately.

Can you take over an existing FreePBX system?

Yes. I start with an audit of security, configuration and backups before making changes.

Does FreePBX support call recording?

Yes. Recording can be enabled per extension, queue or route, with storage and retention planned up front.
